THE CLIENT: University of Oxford, UK
THE BRIEF: To develop a range of assets to help promote the university as innovative and demonstrate it’s economic impactful across the local area. We eventually created 2 infographics, one showing the national picture, this one showing the effect of the university on the local region. I was asked to steer clear of the ‘dreaming spires’ cliche around Oxford. The images would be used on the university website, available as a download and across social media.
THE DATA: The communications team provided a series of written statements and statistics in some key areas.
THE APPROACH: I wanted to use a map approach as the place names would be instantly recognisable to local people and it would demonstrate the impact across the whole of Ox fordshire, not just Oxford itself. Some of the information provided has specific locations, i.e. the science parks, so these were placed on the map first. Next I researched the main student areas, fitting the remaining tourism and staff sections around these.
The logo defined the colours, but I relied heavily on the palette to bring a fun, bright and exciting feel to the infographic. The use of computer-game style graphics added a tech, youthful feel.
