Thinking about … taking control

As a freelancer I’ve always preached about ‘the pipeline’.

A talk you give in 2016 leads to work in 2018. Someone you meet in 2012 will recommend you for something 5 years later. You invest time and effort, and it will pay off.

Problem is - I’ve not been investing much recently.

I’ve had good reason - since 2019 I’ve had 12 months of intensive cancer treatment + 2 years of lockdown (including 6 months of hardcore shielding), which really kicked the stuffing out of me - no meet-ups, no conferences, no training, no co-working .. and my pipeline is feeling a little dry right now.

I feel like I’ve slept through the past 3 years and I’ve let key areas of my life fall into disrepair - but now it’s time to wake up.

I love a plan - so I’ve set myself 7 areas where I want to take back control …

  1. My business finances

  2. My business (day to day operations)

  3. Personal finances

  4. My house/home

  5. My health / fitness

  6. My confidence / mental health

  7. My dog

My aim is to have a quick, medium and long term goal for each one of these in progress at all times.

And bonus points if those goals work for multiple areas …

For example - I’ve recently discovered a love for paddle boarding.

I did a taster session at the lagoon (quick)

I’m going to book onto a 4 session course (medium)

Eventually I’m hoping to join the watersports club (long)

Tick health/fitness and also mental health. Win Win Win!

It’s a work in progress but it just feels good to have some actionable goals to take back control and get myself back into the world again.
