Studio Update - March 2024

It’s been a busy start to the year, with a range of projects to keep me interested - and I’m really happy to say that I’ve been flexing my illustrations muscles a bit more too.

Done and dusted ….

Dr. Martens returned for an update to their internal customer segmentation infographics. Whilst I can’t share these as they contain internal data, they were cool with me sharing the illustrations I created.

I used a series of low-res photos as inspiration for a set of people to help demonstrate each customer group.

More return work came in from my old buddies at LawCare, a charity who provide support to those in the legal profession. Each year I create their Impact Report, a lovely change to help them celebrate their achievements over the previous year.

The client requests that this is presented in the format of an online magazine - a favourite of the client.

The next job for them is to create some custom illustrations - which I’m also using as an opportunity to update they ‘little people” we use to show more diverse body types, abilities and skin tones. Watch this space!

In progress ….

Scrollytelling project

I’m really happy to be working on another scrollytelling site. It’s hard to find clients who would suit this form of storytelling, so when I was approached to create one for a Canadian marine life project, I jumped at it.

My previous projects have been all me … I created the graphics, the content and built the page. This time I’m working with a content creator and an illustrator, leaving me room to explore new ways to use scrollytelling.

Cultural Landscapes

I’m also working on another round of Cultural Landscapes for Birmingham Arts School. This is an interactive map created in Tableau, which shows the relationships between arts organisations and schools in a particular area, in this case my beloved Birmingham.

The project isn’t just about mapping, as I also create a process for gathering the data, process and clean the data and generate the final map, which now includes several other charts and visualisations. I’ll be ready to share and update to this in the summer but you can see last years map here.

Coming up ….

A few projects are lurking in the wings waiting for the green light, including an infographic for a sports organisation, and a history audio project.

I’m also giving my website and social media a bit of a nudge - I’ve been a bit lax recently at updating people … so sorry for the radio silence.

Until next time

Caroline
